Goa Tourism Dept to start free course

The Goa Tourism Department Corporation (GTDC) is all set to launch a free course in tourism, reports The Times of India. Basic training in hotel management will be provided in the course.

The certificate course, which will be of a duration of six months, will admit students who have cleared Class VIII. Students clearing the course will receive a certificate by the Union Tourism Ministry, which has allocated a sum of INR50 lakh for the same.

Nilesh Cabral, Chairman of the GTDC, states: "We will initially admit 100 students, and if the response is good, the seats could be increased."

Cabral stated that the course will be conducted at the residencies of the Corporation in Margao, Panaji, Ponda and Mapusa.

"Through this course we can tap the potential of unemployed youngsters who have cleared Class VIII, while the tourism industry will also get trained workforce," he declared.
