Ghoomophiro is not your regular tour operator. They are different in that they offer various types of tour packages only to corporates. Firms can also choose to customize their travel package for their employees. The brainchild of Prachi Garg, Ghoomophiro is based in NCR, Delhi.

Since when has Ghoomophiro been in operation?

For almost a year and a half now.

What is your background?

Apart from being a die-hard shopaholic and writer, I am a Computer Science graduate from Miranda House. I am currently pursuing MBA from Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai. I was associated with DD News for a short period. I have worked with corporates like Sapient Corporation in Gurgaon and Royal Bank of Scotland.

How did Ghoomophiro come about?

During my stint in project management, one of my KRAs was to organize events for the corporate teams. It was always a tedious task to zero down on the options, keeping in mind the needs of your team members, and this eats up a good amount of your time.

I personally am an avid traveler, and keep exploring unknown places. During one of my trips, when I went for rafting, the idea of Ghoomophiro was born out of my conversation with a localite.

Why did you decide to focus only on corporate travel?

There already are a number of big players offering tour packages for individuals. I wanted to tap the niche market.

What is the minimum group size for which you can arrange a travel package?

At least eight to 10 people.

To which places do you offer travel packages?

NCR, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai.

How big is your team?

We are 5 people currently, who work on a contract basis.

What are the different kinds of packages you offer?

We offer customized trips to corporate. They could range from adventurous to leisure, or be a mix of both.

How do you cope with competition from other tour organisers?

Our key differentiating factor always remains our quality of service.

What was the initial investment? How did you arrange for it?

I started with an investment of INR1,00,000 from my own savings.

What were the major challenges that you face? How do you overcome them?

The major challenge in the hospitality sector is providing great quality of service. In order to ensure quality, all the places that we recommend through Ghoomophiro.com are tested by me personally. That is a laborious and time-consuming process.

What are your expansion plans?

We hope to extend our services to school students in the cities by providing educational tours/rural tours to give them a better idea of how the actual India looks like. I am sure this would help make them better future citizens.

What have been your proudest moments as an entrepreneur?

During a casual conversation, a B-school student told me: “What I am yet to achieve as a B-school student, you have already achieved. That was a proud moment for me.

What advice would you give to an entrepreneur who wants to start his/her own travel business?

Go ahead….but with a proper plan and back-up!
