The tenure of present FISME President VK Agarwal ends on March 31, 2013, and Gandhikumar will take over from April 1 onwards.
Gandhikumar was elected unanimously in a meeting of FISME’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), which was held in New Delhi on March 5, 2013. “It has been a great experience working with FISME so far, and I am sure it will be the same in future, too. My new role and responsibilities will also be focused on enhancing the level of SMEs in India,” says Gandhikumar.
A mechanical engineer, Gandhikumar owns Gandhikumar Foundry based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Gandhikumar has handled several responsibilities in the area of reforms for SMEs, and is a veteran in working with small industry associations. He has worked in various capacities in the Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association (CODISSIA), and became its President in 2000. He was instrumental in initiating and executing path-breaking projects in CODISSIA.
He has also worked at different levels in the Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA), the state-level body of MSMEs.He was elected the President of TANSTIA in 2008.
Institutions on the boards of which Gandhikumar has served include Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation (TIIC) and Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO), Tamil Nadu.
He continues to be a member of the Facilitation Council for MSMEs in Tamil Nadu (a quasi-judicial mechanism for addressing delayed payments of MSMEs), MSME Board (Tamil Nadu), and the State-Level Institutional Committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
