DPK eyes greater share in renewable energy market: Sampathraman

Over 1500MW of power to more than 20,000 customers – that explains DPK’s position in the reliable power sector.

Founded in 1984, the company today is a very strong player in the captive and standby diesel generating sets and pump sets.

DPK’s share in the diesel generating set industry amounts to about 25 percent currently with a turnover of 125 cores. The overall revenue of the gen set industry in the country is estimated to be about 800 to 1000 crores. DPK’s Chairman and Managing Director S. Sampathraman says the company is looking ahead to grab a significant share of the clean energy industry. “We aim to reach 220 crores in revenue this year. In addition, we have expanded our business reach to renewable energy in the last six months. Renewable energy industry is about 200 cores now out of which we do not own any market share currently, but we will be into it a short while,” Sampathraman said.

DPK has been catering to the power requirements of a wide range of businesses including small and large industries, hospitals, construction projects, government institutions, IT companies and agriculture, to name a few. The company’s DG sets are built at a state-of-the-art, ISO9001:2008 certified, 50,000 sqft factory spread over two acres with renowned Kirloskar engines and alternators.

The manufacturing unit’s production capacity is ten gen sets per shift and the unit has an in-house fabrication shop with CNC turret punch, CNC press brakes, CNC plasma cutting, welding machines, and drilling machines. It also houses an in-house pretreatment, powder coating and painting facility.

The diesel gen set industry has an informal association of which Sampathraman is the president. The association is called the Karnataka Diesel Gen Set Manufacturers Association. He has also been elected as the Senior Vice President of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) for the year 2013-14 recently.
