Pune-based Navdeep Soni Photography is a candid wedding photography firm. Born out of a software engineer’s passion for photography, the firm has grown from strength to strength since its inception in 2011.

SupportBiz presents an exclusive conversation with Navdeep Soni, the founder of the firm.

How long has Navdeep Soni Photography been in operation?

Navdeep Soni Photography has been in operation since 2011, for one year now.

What are the types of photoshooots that you specialise in?

Currently, I specialize in weddings and engagement (or couple) shoots. I also love to shoot architecture and streets.

What is your background? What were you doing prior to starting Navdeep Soni Photography?

Before starting Navdeep Soni Photography, I was a software engineer. I spent a few years writing code in Dot Net. However, photography has been a part of my life for the last 10 years. I have worked as a freelance photographer before I decided to start my own firm.

How did you come up with the idea of starting Navdeep Soni Photography?

I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. My family and friends always encouraged me to take photography up professionally. It took me a few years to really start giving it a serious thought. As requests for wedding shoots started pouring in, to make those special moments more memorable, I decided to start my own venture.

How big is your team, presently?

As a wedding photojounalist, I shoot alone most of the time. However, I have a few friends who help me out with certain assignments.

Do you do photoshoots only in Pune or elsewhere too?

I am based in Pune, but shoot all over India. Currently, there are requests for a few overseas assignments as well, which I am considering.

How is Navdeep Soni Photography different from other photographers?

I think it is my perspective - the way I see weddings and the entire experience that I bring along – that is different from other photographers. I keep an eye on the key moments, the stories unfolding in a wedding that usually go unnoticed, and bring them to the fore.

How do you deal with competition from other similar businesses?

I see competition as another way of learning. It teaches me what to do, as well as what not to.

How do you get your clients? Do you advertise in any way?

I get most of the clients through my portfolio website, my Facebook page, and through client referrals.

What are your expansion plans in the near future?

There are a few plans, very close to my heart, but I think it is too early to comment on them. Let us just say there a few surprises on the way!

What are the major challenges that you face?

The most challenging aspect is the requirement to evolve with each assignment. Each assignment is different, and requires something different from me.

What have been your proudest moments as an entrepreneur?

Whenever I am able to make my clients very happy with the end results, and they go on to recommend me to their friend circle, it makes me very proud.

What advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur?

Be positive, be rational, and don't give up!
