Chennai, December 24: The state-owned Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Ltd., popularly known as Aavin, will henceforth procure cow and buffalo milk for Rs 23 and for Rs 31 per litre respectively, reports IANS.
However, milk's retail price remained unchanged.
The additional outgo for Aavin per year will be around Rs 273.75 crore, said IANS.
State Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, in a statement said, “Taking into account the increase in prices of cattle feed, medical expenses, manpower costs and the hike in prices by private milk dairies, I have ordered to increase the milk procurement prices." She further said that, this decision made by the government will benefit 22.50 lakh milk producers of the state.
