Indo-US business opportunities likely to increase further

On Feb 29, 2012, the US Consul General, Chennai inaugurated a three- day event, ‘Experience America-’ aimed at highlighting the culture and diversity in the US and showing the citizens of Tamil Nadu the benefits provided by the diplomatic enclave in Chennai.

The event will feature several imminent speakers that will educate the State about opportunities in the US, including travel and potential business prospects.

The Minister Counsellor for Commercial Affair at the US Embassy in Delhi, Judy Rieke was part of this event. She highlighted the business opportunities between the US and India.

She said: "Since incredible growth has been happening in Indian Tier II and III cities like Coimbatore, the US wants to expand bilateral economic ties with India through business relations between the companies," reported The Economic Times.

Infrastructure, energy and healthcare are the key industries that the US is considering for investment in Indian tier two and tier three cities.

At an event earlier in Jan 2012, the US Consul General of Chennai, Jennifer McIntyre highlighted, that strengthening of the US-India relationship would be beneficial to millions in both countries.

McIntyre further stated that there has been a 165 percent increase in FDIs between US and India from 2005-2009. Over the last decade, even the exports between the countries have grown about 180 percent.

At both the events in Tamil Nadu, a strengthening of the Indo-US relationship has been highlighted clearly by US diplomats as well and Indian officials.
