DRDO develops technology for use by the military.
“The process food industry is growing by leaps & bounds with its growing expansion, the need for well trained professionals in the area of food processing technology and food analysis and quality assurance is also growing. Educational Institutions offering a specialized programme or course in food analysis are limited in the country,” said Dr. Manas Mandal, Chief Controller R&D, DRDO during the review meeting of 11th five year plan programme of DFRL, Mysore.
The basic qualification for this course which is affiliated to University of Mysore is B.Sc. with Chemistry/ Bio-chemistry / Food Science as one of the subjects or B.Sc. in Agriculture / B.V.Sc. Dr. Batra, Director of DFRL informed that the students of this course are given sound training in Food Chemistry, Food Bio-chemistry, Food Packaging, Food Microbiology and Food Laws besides exposure to various modern biochemical & microbiological techniques & equipment.
The students of PG Diploma course in Food Analysis & Quality Assurance, offered by DFRL, Mysore are also given in-depth understanding about various food preservation, processing and food safety protocols that can help the industry & the country at large in salvaging the precious post-harvest losses in food grains and other valuable agricultural and horticultural perishables. The advance techniques in food processing are also part of the curriculum of this course.
