Here are some tips for a small entrepreneur to have a stress-free holiday season.
Do not be guilty
Do not feel guilty of taking a vacation or relaxing a little at work in the holiday season. It will only rejuvenate you and help increase your productivity when you return to work.
It is a good idea to celebrate important festivals with your colleagues in office. Decorate the office, arrange for food to be catered, put on some music, organise some games and hand out some small gifts. This can prove to be a great stress-buster and an opportunity to reconnect with your staff.
Spend time with family
Ensure that you do not get too caught up in work even during the festival season, unable to spend time with your family. Give your family the time and love that they deserve.
Plan in advance
Take the time to think over the jobs that you might be required to do when you are on vacation or out of office. Try to finish them early, or postpone them to after your vacation. Another alternative is to delegate some of these tasks to other trustworthy colleagues who would be present in office.
Also, plan your vacation in advance, booking tickets and hotels beforehand, to avoid any last-minute hassles.
Control your commitments
You could control the number of tasks that you will undertake in the holiday season. Do not feel guilty about relaxing your strict work schedule during the holidays.
Make use of your e-mail settings to inform the parties you correspond with regularly that you will be out of office, while you are vacationing. Inform them who else to get in touch with in your absence.
Inform your colleagues that you will be unavailable while on vacation, and request their co-operation in handling the workload effectively and ensuring a stress-free return to work.
Do not indulge in binge eating or drinking during the holiday season. Eat healthy instead. This will help you avoid the guilt trip due to weight gain when you return to work.
Do not forget to exercise or meditate during your vacation. Ensure that you take care of your physical and mental health during the holiday season.
Take a break from work as far as possible during your vacation. Use your vacation time as an opportunity to de-stress and connect with family.
Pursue your passions
The holiday season is a good time to pursue your passions, to follow your heart and do what you love doing – painting, reading, cooking or travelling. Taking the time to do these activities will help you shed off the stress.
