Managing Growth

Be a healthy entrepreneur!

As the owner of a small business, you lead an incredibly hectic lifestyle. You have to don multiple hats, constantly perform, guide and lead and motivate, all with a limited budget and team. Such a life can be incredibly stressful, and it might be difficult to find time to de-stress, exercise and keep fit, but it is crucial.

Being hale and healthy is a must if you want to sustain your growth in the long run. What is more, you will also inspire your team to be healthy and fit. Here are some tips on how you can manage your fitness along with your work.

Good ergonomics

Ergonomics can have a great impact on your and your employees’ health. Ensure that your office space is well-ventilated, and has good movement of air and light. The chairs and desks that you use in your office should be comfortable and ergonomically designed, so as to protect you and your employees from back and neck aches.

Also, make sure that the computer screens in your office are guarded from radiation and are relaxing to the eyes.

Take breaks

Even though you have a huge list of things to be achieved, it is advisable to take a break from time to time to relax yourself. This will ultimately help boost productivity and save you from the ill-effects of sitting continuously at your desk for very long periods of time.

Drink lots of water

Do not forget to drink a lot of water in the course of your work day. Keep a bottle of water handy by your work desk, and sip from it at regular intervals. This will keep you hydrated and fit.

Practice breathing exercises

It is a great idea to practice some breathing exercises that you can do as you work. Breathing exercises can help improve your concentration, reduce stress, and keep you calm and relaxed.

Build physical exercise into your routine

The lack of physical exercise will ultimately catch up with you, if you do not pay attention to it. Make time to exercise five days a week. You could also consider meditation. You could exercise while meeting a client at the gym, or while holding a meeting with one of your colleagues. You could go out for a walk during lunch hour, or just before the end of your work day.

Eat healthy

Stop reaching for unhealthy, junk food when you are hungry in the midst of a work day. Ensure that your meals are healthy and well-balanced, and include all the components necessary for a person of your age, height and weight. Take care to ensure that your mid-day snacks are healthy and not too calorie-laden.

Consider health insurance

It is critical that you consider health insurance coverage for yourself as well as your team. Ensure that you and your employees are protected from all common and major ailments.

Have a hobby

It is a wonderful idea to cultivate a hobby that relaxes you, like reading or photography or travelling. Taking time out for your hobby on a regular basis will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Build a healthy work culture

Create a healthy work culture in your organisation. Encourage your employees to take periodic breaks to relax themselves. Encourage your team to exercise. Ensure that your pantry/canteen is stocked with health-foods and health-drinks, along with the regular food stuff.

Make sure that you and your team have a good work-life balance, and spend enough time with family and in pursuing personal passions.

Get some games

It is a good idea to invest in some healthy games like badminton or cricket, if your office premises have the space for them. This will help you in de-stressing and staying fit, building team spirit, as well as keep your employees motivated.
