NMCC: Reduce regulatory burden on SMEs

The National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) stated last week that the government should focus on reducing the regulatory burden on the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country, reported SME Times. The Council stated that this is essential to improve the competitiveness of SMEs, and that this should be given utmost priority.

This announcement was made at a meeting of the Council at New Delhi. The meeting was attended by industrialist Ratan Tata, Planning Commission member Arun Maira, Chief Economic Adviser Kaushik Basu, Secretaries of the Departments of Heavy Industry and MSME, among others.

At the meeting, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma spoke about the progress in implementation of the recently launched National Manufacturing Policy. He also outlined the need for partnership between the Centre, state governments and industry in achieving the new policy goals.
