Chattisgarh to get more thermal power plants

Chhattisgarh, which has roughly one-fifth of India's total known coal reserves, has signed 59 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) since January 2007 with various power producers to set up power plants.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Raman Singh in the state assembly, in reply to a question by Congress legislator Premsai Singh.

"Chhattisgarh has signed 59 MoUs with power producers for setting up thermal power plants, including 23 super-critical thermal power plants," Singh stated.

He also submitted the names of the companies with which the Bharatiya Janata Party government has signed deals for the power plants.
