25,000 factories downed shutters in Coimbatore on Feb 10

Small and large industrial units held a strike, protesting the lack of uninterrupted power supply, in Coimbatore on February 10, 2012.  25,o00 industrial units, representing 31 industrial associations, took part in this strike, reports The Hindu

A Rs.400 crore loss of production and revenue was accounted, during this day long strike. The previous week saw periodic demonstrations by owners and workers of industrial units. The demonstrations took place at Gandhipuram, in the heart of the city.

Demonstrations for the day long strike lasted 3 hours, with mild agitations met by a police lathicharge. Ten people were arrested during the strike, according to a report in Indiamart

The demonstrators were shocked by the State Government silence on the issue, given that there was no minister to address the crowd or to take note of the grievances of the industrial units in Coimbatore.
