India's new stock exchange MCX-SX started trading in equities Monday, competing against the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 127 points lower in afternoon trade Wednesday. Realty, power and capital goods stocks were the worst performers.
The Goa government has cancelled the licenses of nearly 450 iron ore traders registered in the state, in a bid to check illegal extraction and export of iron ore. The order suspending the licenses was issued on April 3 by the states mines ministry, which is headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Diamond trading operations in the city of Surat, Gujarat, were closed for a day on April 2, as a mark of protest against the government’s Union Budget customs and excise duty proposals. The strike has been called for by the Surat Diamond Association (SDA).
