A premier voluntary state level non-government institution of small scale industrialists, Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) is the successor of the erstwhile All Mysore Small Scale Industries Association established in 1949 in Bangalore. The idea of such an association was originated from the initiative of Freedom Fighter Late R.S. Aradhya who visualized the need of a unified effort to bring together entrepreneurs to improve the economy of the state through small scale industries.
KASSIA had a humble beginning with just 12 members in 1949, housed in a small rented building which went on to expand to a major industrial association in the state today having a membership of nearly 5000. The members are drawn from all segments of the small scale industrial sector spread over the entire stateincluding about 92 affiliated associations.
The association is managed by a Council of Management consisting of President, Vice President, the immediate Past President (Ex-officio Member) and 37 members directly elected by the General Body. Past Presidents and Special Invitees are also part of the system. Mr. Shashidhar B.P.is the current president and Mr. Chidananda Rajamane serves as KASSIA Vice President now.
The key objective of the association is to promote development of small scale industries in the state. KASSIA also provides facilities for exchange of information, experience and interest among the SSIs in addition to undertaking professional, technical and management consultation services.
KASSIA has been instrumental in creating specialized service centers such as Centre of Quality Development & Research, Techno Economic Research & Development Centre, Centre for Market Development, Sub-Contract Exchange, Kassia Credit Co-operative Society and K.L. Nanjappa Foundation.
