Close to sixty five years ago, in February 1948 some industrialists and entrepreneurs from the manufacturing segment came together to form Bombay Industries Association (BIA). Since then, the association has remained in the forefront in representing industry and manufacturing issues and has raised the entrepreneurs’ voice against the anti-industrial policy of the Central & State Governments, and the Municipal bodies. BIA has also set up of infrastructural facilities for common man with tremendous successful results over the period of more than four decades.
The association has close to 1200 members representing various industry segments, mainly from the Mumbai region. The member companies mainly represent industry verticals like plastic product manufacturing, rubber products, automobile components, chemicals, engineering products, electrical products etc.
The association has a rich history of strong leadership and now it is headed by a young leader Shahin Shah, president of BIA. Shasin is a third generation entrepreneur and the director of Kusum Engineering Works. Manan Doshi, vice president of BIA and director of Giri Plast is also a young entrepreneur who is driving the association activities.
In order to have an effective voice, Bombay Industries Association has its affiliation with premier organizations like ASSOCHAM, Indian Merchants Chamber, Employers Federation of India, and Council for Fair Business Practices. Apart from raising voice for the industry, BIA actively works for skill enhancement of the entrepreneurs and the employees of the member companies, as well as knowledge sharing among the members of BIA.
