There are over 100 small units in the industry, manufacturing rechargeable torches. It employs over 8,000 people, and has a collective annual turnover of over Rs. 20 crore.
“We supply our products to almost all the parts of the country, but we have failed to enter the international market. The major reason behind this is that there is no platform for the manufacturers to showcase their products, advertise them and sell them to international customers ,” said Harnaik Kumar, a manufacturer.
“The state government must help the manufacturers enter international markets. It should educate them about the modern technologies being used to find clients from abroad,” he said.
“There are some other problems too that the industry is facing, such as outdated technology being used for production. Neither is there proper availability of raw materials, nor is there awareness of market trends among the small manufacturers,” Kumar stated.
“The industrialists are not aware of several laws, which leads to hurdles in the manufacturing of products,” said Shantanu Kumar, another manufacturer.
