The industry comprises of units that manufacture blankets, shawls, tweeds and other woollen products. It includes over 200 firms, employing over 1,500 persons, having a collective annual turnover of over Rs. 40 crore.
“The industrialists are making full use of the extreme cold weather, which has increased the sale of powerloom products,” said Manohar Lal, a manufacturer.
“Not only the local traders, but also traders from several other states of North India, West Bengal and Mumbai are buying our products,” said Lal.
“Even the exports to countries like USA, the South East, , the Middle East, Europe , Australia, among others has gone up,” Lal said.
“There has been an increase of 15% in sale during this season. However, there are several problems being faced by the industrialists,” stated Surinder Kumar Sharma, another manufacturer.
“Some of the most common problems faced by us are the irregular supply of electricity, even in winters, high VAT levied by the state government, lack of subsidies, and poor infrastructure,” said Sharma.
