Shimla conclave to boost Himachal tourism

A tourism conclave is being held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, which is being attended by delegates from several countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Thailand and Egypt.

The event, called 'Destination Himachal- Shimla Mega Mart', began on June 3 and will conclude on June 7, reports Business Standard.

A number of infrastructure developers, senior secretaries, policy makers, diplomats, tourists, as well as a number of Indian and international tour operators, are among the event attendees. The event was inaugurated by the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal.

The event, organised by the Himachal PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in co-ordination with some other organisers, showcases traditional handicrafts, jewellery as well as marble products from Shimla.

Dhyan Chand, Chairman of the PHDCCI, stated: "It is the Chamber's second such endeavour at Shimla after 2009, aimed at boosting trade with the participating countries, exploring investment opportunities and promoting Himachal tourism."

The President of the PHD Chamber, Sandip Somany, and the Director of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Arun Sharma, commended the event, and stated that it would make a significant contribution to the state’s tourism industry.
