Pavilion in London fair to boost West Bengal tourism

West Bengal is all set to be showcased as the theme state in the India pavilion at the international tourism fair in London in November 2012, reports The Times of India. State Tourism Minister Rachpal Singh expressed happiness at this decision.

This would give fillip to tourism in the state of West Bengal, announced Union Tourism Minister, Subodh Kant Sahay, at a conclave organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

Sahay stated that the West Bengal government should work on building infrastructure through public-private partnership, in order to do away with the inadequate facilities in the state.

He also urged the states of eastern India – Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand and the North-east – to form alliances among themselves (such as the Delhi-Agra-Jaipur circuit) to boost tourism mutually.

Sahay also stated that the Centre was in the process of preparing a detailed project report on developing tourism in West Bengal as well as Odisha.

Singh stated that the content that the pavilion would showcase would be decided upon after consultation with the Chief Minister, Mamata Bannerjee.

Singh added that the state government was working on matters like brand building, development of infrastructure at tourist spots, as well as the marketing of such locations. He stated that the government is planning to organize a competition to come up with a new logo for ‘Brand Bengal’.
