
India’s grape exports have shown an increase of 63.47 percent in the 2012 grape season, reports The Times of India. Nearly 36,888 tonnes of grapes have been exported from India so far, as against the 22,571 tonnes exported in 2011.
A whopping 99 percent of the total grape exports were from Maharashtra. The state contributed 36,652 tonnes of grapes, from the total of 36,888 tonnes, while the remaining 197 tonnes were from Andhra Pradesh.
Nashik produced 70 percent of the grapes procured from Maharashtra i.e. 28,000 tonnes, indicating a rise of 86 percent as compared to 2011.
Estimates by the Agriculture & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) indicate that the Netherlands, the UK, Sweden, Germany and Denmark have been the major buyers of Indian grapes in the current season.
