Online has opened a great window of opportunity for Indian SMEs across sectors. This phenomenon proved to be more lucrative for Indian SMEs when internet giant, Google became aggressive and more approachable.

Responsible for driving Google focus in Indian SME sector, Ricky Kapur, Director of Enterprise Sales, Asia of Google Inc. highlighted the roadmap and potential of Google Apps business for Indian SMEs. In an interaction with SupportBiz, he emphasized on the drivers and differentiating factors that business application services will have on Indian SMEs.

How big is the business opportunity of Google applications through SMEs? What is the main driver of business application trade among SMEs?

SMEs are highly motivated to adopt newer technologies to increase their business growth, enhance the profitability and increase employee’s productivity. Indian SMEs have also selected cloud solutions as their future. Data is showing clear evidence of this firm belief of SMEs. According to IDC, Cloud is expected to grow by 50 per cent in the next three years. The reasons for such expected growth is affordability and easier access of business applications through cloud solutions.

According to you, what are the key issues that the Indian SMEs are struggling with?

Historically the SMEs have always struggled with less number of options available to them. Also, the pricing and costing of technology based solutions have always been considered as high cost affair among the SMEs. Earlier, only expensive software were available to them, which ultimately tampered their intention to adopt innovative technologies, processes to enhance the level of their business.

What are the key drivers and differentiating factors for Google Apps for Business?

Products under the umbrella of Google Apps for Business are developed and designed according to the exact pain points that the SMEs are facing. These applications are basically designed to influence the productivity of the organization and ultimately enhance the profitability of the company. Also, the pricing strategy for this product portfolio is specifically designed for the SMEs.

Google Apps offers easy solutions for web mail, calendars, cloud storage and video meetings through Google’s consumer products, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Hangouts. These tools work together seamlessly. All that’s needed to get up and running is an Internet-connected device. Companies can securely access all their data and services from a mobile phone including Android, iOS, or BlackBerry platforms.

Please highlight the pricing structure for Google Apps for Business.

The new affordable pricing structure that Google Apps offers to the Indian SMEs makes it easier for smaller businesses in India to avail the benefits of working in the cloud. The payment plan is priced at Rs 150 per user per month if the businesses want to stay on flexible plan. The annual plan is priced at Rs 1500 per user per year. To formulate this strategy we have reduced our pricing by 45 per cent as compared to the previous price points.

Do you face any challenge in dealing with a common perspective of availing Google Services as free?

Not exactly; in fact free version of Google applications help us to convince users for getting into the new leap of offerings. The awareness and sense of trust is always there, hence people find it easy to adopt more advanced variants of Google Apps for Business. The security and support assurance also are the key convincing points for the entrepreneurs.
