India is a strategic market for growth: Riverbed Technology

SMEs in India are moving towards the consolidation of their IT infrastructure to reduce their data center and corporate IT footprints, with the primary goal of reduced operational costs. Robert Healey, Marketing Evangelist for APAC and Japan at network optimization services provider Riverbed Technology, shares some valuable insights on technology trends among Indian SMEs.

What importance does the Indian SME segment hold for Riverbed?

Riverbed strongly focuses on the SME sector.

Consolidation can reduce the cost of equipment, personal and bandwidth – making consolidation a serious design consideration for data center refreshes, deployments and upgrades.

Riverbed has recently launched an aggressive Channel Partner Program for the SME market with the introduction of a dedicated sales team and lead generation program.

India is a very strategic market for the growth of Riverbed globally. We have a considerable market share in the WAN optimization space in India - around 40 percent (Gartner).

We were also awarded the Frost & Sullivan 2011 India IT & Telecom Excellence Award for Wide Area Network (WAN) Optimization Controller Vendor of the Year in early 2011.

Being positioned by Gartner in the Leaders Quadrant in the Wide Area Network (WAN) Optimization Controller market, Riverbed has focused on meeting the ever-changing needs of global organizations, which has led to the development of a wide-ranging solution that provides enhanced performance no matter where an employee or data is located.

These points stand testimony to our service offerings and our market leadership position. With a strong foothold in India and making use of the tremendous opportunities available in the Indian market we would like to strengthen our business both in India and globally.

What are the challenges that SMEs are facing with regard to enhancing the business processes through better IT infrastructure?

The scarcity of customized solutions, tailor-made to suit the specific needs of SMEs, the dearth of investment capability in high-end IT infrastructure and in-house management capacities are some of the challenges that SMEs face today.

Additionally, SMEs have concerns around IT investment as they tend to invest in technologies that bring in immediate benefits.

SMEs tend to invest in IT that directly benefits their bottom line—either by reducing operating costs, improving employee productivity, or acquiring and retaining customers.

Which are the SME verticals that Riverbed targets?

As mentioned earlier, we cater to any enterprise that has multiple offices.

Our aim is to focus on addressing CIO needs rather than categorizing basis the verticals that we need to get into. Providing performance platforms to the customers is key to us and we focus on that.

We are open to providing performance solutions to any enterprise that has several servers and branch offices irrespective of the vertical they are in. This helps us in covering a huge spectrum of clients across several verticals.
