Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced that the process of issuing licences for new industries would be done through a web portal.
While making the announcement in the assembly, she said issuing of such licences would be made through a web portal in the wake of complaints of difficulties faced by applicants.
This portal would help industrialists and the general public know the various government schemes, she said, adding that the portal would be developed at a cost of Rs 2.24 crore.
It is mandatory for an industry to register and get a licence from the state government under the Industries Act 1948 and there are over 42,000 industries registered with the government of Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister also announced that district employment exchanges in Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Tiruvarur, Tiruvallur and Dharmapuri would get their own buildings.
Each building would cost Rs 1.65 crore. Jayalalithaa said Employees' State Insurance (ESI) hospitals would be opened at Kudankulam, Naranamangalam, Thiruchendur, Hosur, Neyveli and Sivakasi. "A total number of 96 posts, including those of 19 doctors, will be created for implementing the scheme," Jayalalithaa said.
She added that around 16,000 labourers would be benefited from the new hospitals.
