New Delhi, January 20: The 16th edition of National Packaging Exhibition & Conference "INDPACK 2014" has attracted great interest from both domestic and international manufacturers of packaging materials and machinery.
The three-day exhibition was organized in a total area of 4500 square meters where about 90 exhibitors from across the country showcased their products. The event has been organized by the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) and supported by the ministries of commerce and industries and food processing industries (MoFPI), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Meat and Poultry Processing Board.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Anita Agnihotri, special secretary and financial advisor, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, on January 16, 2014 and witnessed a footfall of at least 6,000 on the first day. There was a separate pavilion for Small Scale Industries with an area of 6 square meters for each booth. Nearly hundred exhibitors, both from India and overseas, showcased their latest products at the event.
While the sole objective of the exhibition was to offer the Indian packaging industry a platform to showcase state-of-the-art packaging technology and machinery, products and services; it also proved to be a venue of exposure for Indian SMEs as foreign companies showcased a wide variety of suitable, high-quality and cost-effective packaging solutions.
"Government of India has also taken a great initiative to introduce the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) scheme and invited the leading foreign investors to come to India to invest in various sectors. Though, most of the packaging industries are covered under MSME but I am sure that under FDI, the leading foreign investor would be interested in setting up their plant in India for the manufacturing of packaging materials to cater to retail consumption," Dr. E.M.S. Natchiappan, Hon'ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Government of India, said at the valedictory function of the event.
