In 2011-12, the exports were at $955 million.

The US and European markets contribute to over 60 per cent of India's total carpet exports.
Categories that recorded maximum growth in the previous fiscal include handmade silk carpets up by 44 per cent, followed by handmade woolen tufted carpets which went up by 23 per cent and synthetic carpets up by 17 per cent.
During March 2013, the export of these items rose by nearly 29 per cent to $164 million against the same period in the last fiscal. The carpet exports sector provides employment to more than 1 million people.
