India, China need improved civil society interaction: Panel

At a panel discussion on 'India-China Relations - Beyond Politics and Business,' organised by India China Economic and Cultural Council (ICEC) in the country capital on Wednesday, the participants pointed out that, despite warm and friendly bilateral diplomatic relations, the people-to-people interaction between the two countries is not encouraging.

The panel consisted of a number of China experts, scholars, MP Mani Shankar Aiyar and minister in Chinese embassy Wang Xuefeng. The experts said that common people of the two countries are alike in many ways including their life philosophies and cultures.

The event also witnessed the unveiling of a book, ‘Cinasthana Today - Viewing China from India,’ by ICEC president P.S. Deodhar. In the book, Deodhar talked about historical and cultural similarities between Indians and Chinese people, along with their business and industry. Aiyar appreciated Deodhar’s effort saying that, Cinasthana Today will help Indians get a right perspective of China which will be instrumental in building mutual relationships.
