DoT Advocates 'Cloud' For Stronger MSMEs

Kolkata, March 17: A few days Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s call to reinforce the MSMEs in the country, the Department of Telecommunications has advocated mass deployment of cloud computing technologies to improve the MSMEs exports during the 12th Plan period.

According to Economic Times, which has quoted an internal note, said that the DoT will work with the MSME ministry to implement the Rs. 82.33 crore project. According to this the cloud computing applications will be deployed in the key business processes and production lines across 1800-plus MSMEs and apparently the project has been approved by the Planning Commission.

"MSMEs are known to be resource-scarce entities, which is why adoption of cloud computing applications can be a cost-effective alternative to their investing in expensive IT infrastructure. This would also equip them to withstand the challenges of globalisation," says the DoT note.

"Deployment of information & communication technology tools like cloud computing can be very handy for MSMEs to enhance their export potential as they can leverage it to conduct online surveys, get customer feedback, communicate with prospective buyers apart from marketing their products using the World Wide Web," the note added.
