The eighth edition of the Gem & Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE) started in Chennai on February 23, reports IBN Live. The exhibition, inaugurated by K Rosaiah, Governor of Tamil Nadu, will continue till February 26.
Exhibitors from Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and several other Indian cities, as well as from Thailand, Italy, Turkey, Dubai, Hong Kong and China are participating in the event.
The exhibition this year includes a ramp walk, where models display the latest designs in gold and diamond jewellery.
In spite of the light visitor traffic initially, exhibitors have expressed hope for business to improve over the weekend. ''There is a growth in the number of exhibitors this year,'' stated Jayantilal Challani, president, MJDMA.
About 225 exhibitors are participating in the exhibition this year as compared to the 160 in 2011. Between 12,000 and 15,000 visitors are expected to participate in the event this year. However, the exhibition is restricted only to traders and is not open to consumers.
This B2B exhibition is held annually at the Chennai Trade Centre, jointly organized by United Business Media (UBM) India and the Madras Jewellers & Diamond Merchants Association (MJDMA).
