WB unlikely to grant SEZ status to Infosys project

West Bengal plans to communicate its stand to the company this week.

The Mamata Banerjee government is against special economic zones (SEZs). State Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee confirmed the same. His remark was in response to media queries on Infosys' plea for SEZ status for its Rajarhat project, according to a newspaper report.

Infosys, India’s second largest IT firm, is looking to set up shop on State government alloted land in Rajarhat. The State plans to communicate its stand, on SEZ status sought for the project, to Infosys this week, according to the report in The Economic Times

Chatterjee did however mention that the government is looking into remedying the survival of the IT sector in the State.
