UP govt calls for early shutdown of shops, thanks to power shortage

Faced with an staggering 2,500MW power shortfall, the Uttar Pradesh government, on June 17, ordered all shops and malls across the state to close at 7 PM.

According to the spokesman of the Labour Department, all shops and malls, barring medical shops, will open between 11 AM to 7 PM. The timing of restaurants and food joints in the state have also been changed. They will now remain open between 11 AM and 10 PM.

Officials said that the order had been necessitated by the sharp 2,500MW electricity shortfall in the state.

The order will be in force for 15 days.
